Cylon (alias label-founder Jannick Schou) mixes fields-recordings, dense-drones, subtle piano and other acoustic instruments in order to make a peculiar – though highly appealing – kind of melancholic ambient-music.
finneyerkes is a duo consisting of Matt Finney and Randy Yerkes. Together they make a mixture of indie, post-rock and ambient and the result is simply stunning. Besides being a part of the .contempory label roster they’re also on the lovely Heat Death Records (where they will release a 3” cd some time later this year). Earlier this year they released their first album, Gather and Sing (see myspace for download link – it’s free).
Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, label-founder Fors attempts to blend the hardcore mentality of techno- and electro-music with slightly more subtle impressions from his everyday.
Jannick Schou is label co-founder and normally works under the alias cylon. He has recently begun to work under his own name though. His sound is rather ambient/droney.
Kenneth Kirschner is a New York City based composed, who was born in 1970. All of his music is freely available through his website. He has previously released music through such great labels as 12k, Room40, and/OAR and Sub Rosa.
Ryu is japanish artist, Ryusuke Ikeda. His music is a strange (but lovely!!!) mixture of avantgarde, electronic, pop and experimental. His work is characterized by a certain playfulness, energy and sparkle.
MUSIC
Matt Finney is a 20-year old poet/writer and musician from Millibrook, Alabama. Besides making some of the most hunting poems he’s also a part of the duo finneyerkes. Expect great things from this guy!
